A successful comeback
After some break in autumn a group of Irish volunteers came to visit some places in Belarus from 20th to 27th of November. Supervised by Brian O’Sullivan, a medical director of Burren Chernobyl Project, the group spent a very busy and fantastic week in the country. The most important point of the week was Brian’s lecturing at the International conference on palliative care that was held in Minsk from 21st to 23d of November. He shared his experience in palliative rehab with the other participants of the conference from different countries, like South Africa, USA, UK, Russia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus.
Then the week brought them over to Cherven children’s orphanage, where our volunteers work very closely with the medical stuff. They have sponsored medications, brought lots of toys and stationary, makeup for girls in various units, also sponsored shoes for some girls in Unit 3. They have also purchased some antiflu meds for Cherven psycho- neurological asylum in village Yazovki.
Also the volunteers – Brian, Suzanne, Fiona – visited some families in the local community to support them in various aspects.
The visit was very productive and we can’t wait to see them here again! Thanks from everybody on Belarusian side for a fabulous week and a lovely company!!!
